Mid-South Golden Gloves
The Golden Gloves first started in 1923 in Chicago, Illinois before expanding to New York City, New York a year later, and then evolving into the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions in 1928. The Mid-South Golden Gloves started in 1934 in Memphis, Tennessee and is one of the tournaments oldest franchises in the organization. It consists of boxing teams from Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Tennessee who bring their state champions to compete for a chance to win the regional title and advance to the national tournament.
The Mid-South Golden Gloves has produced several National Golden Gloves champions over the years, along with members of the Olympic boxing team, and several professional world boxing champions in its rich 89-year history. The Golden Gloves is the most prestigious event held nationally in all of amateur boxing.
