The La Vergne Boxing Club: Home of the A-Team traveled to Augusta, Arkansas again for a boxing match on November 14, 2009 and once again faired well.
Eduardo “Chachi” Aguilar (119 lbs.) started things off right for the A-Team by adding another win to his record by beating Tyler Curry (5-1) from Ft. Gibson, OK, by decision in the 6th bout of the night.
Michael Rodgers jr., 85 lbs., did his part in keeping the win streak alive by beating Victor Atilano, Morrison, TN by decision.
“Smokin” Joe Kibodeaux, 175 lbs. made his debut against another first timer named Josh Spence from River Valley, AR. Spence won a decision against Kibodeaux who displayed a lot of promise with his sound defense.
Sloane “The Crusader” Strader 149 lbs. boxed beautifully against Alberto Garcia from Russellville, AR by sticking and moving throughout the bout. When Garcia was announced as the winner by split decision the crowd booed, but Strader showed great sportsmanship by shaking Garcia’s hand and holding the ropes up for him to exit the ring.
Dylan “Lil’ Hercules” Albanese, 65 lbs. got the A-Team back on the winning track by out boxing Corbin Skalisky from the Elite Boxing Gym in a unanimous decision.
The last bout of the evening for the boxing club from La Vergne, TN and the 27th on the card was the debut of 11-year old Sean “The Russian Hammer” Sullivan who weighed in at 117 lbs. Sullivan was far too strong and skilled for his opponent Shawn Smith from Searcy, AR who had already had the experience of 2 bouts under his belt. Sullivan was very accurate in the first round and busted Smiths nose at the bell. Smith did not come out of his corner for the second round and Sullivan officially chalked up his first win.
The A-Team ran it’s record to 11 wins and only 2 losses when traveling to Augusta, Arkansas and all of the boys are on track to compete in the State Silver Gloves Championships in Jackson, Tennessee on December 18-19, 2009.
